I like stories and tattoos, no matter how well done, and if they don’t tell a story that involves you emotionally, then they’re just there for decoration, then they’re not a valid tattoo. There has to be some emotional appeal or they’re not, to my way of thinking, a real tattoo. I have recently done research on this with a friend of mine who is studying Sexual Psychology in women. Tattoo’s over the breast area represent a woman coming out of a bad relationship or broken heart who is trying to mend or take back that part of herself. A tattoo on the ankle represents a “good girl” who wants to be “bad.” A tattoo on the lower back means “come fuck me.” A tattoo on the arm or forearm is usually done by lesbians and means “I am tough or no-nonsense.” A tattoo on the shoulder means they are a tease or resort to humor/buddy-buddy type interactions with the opposite sex. ~Gaiadamselfly at tattoo now

So much ink is spilled on Lindsay Lohan, so much more on the psychology and symbolism of tattoos in general and celebrity tattoos in particular, that I got interested in matching the former with the latter—looking at Lindsay’s choice of tattoos

According to the poster Gaiadamselfly at Tattoo Now, and using the interpretations as rendered by the popular Vanishing Tattoo, where Lindsay is ranked #73 on their list of “World’s Hottest 101 Women with Tattoos”…

Lohan has the words “La Bella Vita” tattooed at the top of her right buttock. While G and others do not determine this location as an obviously sexual one (as the lower back is defined), it could be suggested as the case for one of the sexiest celebs around. Yet the meaning behind the Italian for “The Beautiful Life” may suggest nothing more than that—an appreciation for the value of life. Then again, the cheeky actress who defies most expectations by doing what she wishes may be making an ironic statement of sorts…about her beautiful ass lending itself, in part, to the beautiful life she leads?

Lindsay has a small star on the inside of her left wrist. Again, the location is a discreet one, and may be for personal partaking, just as this and the other might be for keeping a lower profile tat collection…. The star is also, according to Vanishing Tattoo, a classic choice for tattoos, and has several suggested meanings, from the more literal play on words (she is a star) to the more symbolic and figurative (letting light in and out, shining bright).
And Lohan has the word “BREATHE” on the inside right wrist. Okay, again, the closest analysis of location is for lesbians who show their tough side with tats on the upper arms, so the wrist is much more a covert spot for a message to oneself? Could be Linds is using this tat as a reminder. Could be, since the word is in white, a mere creative gesture ala those lovely metal word ornamentations you get at an arts shop that say “spirit”, “creativity”, etc. in script.

Then again, as I have gotten off my lazy left buttock and researched to discover, Lohan got this tat as a tribute to John Lennon, in light of his song lyrics, “Get out there and get peace, think peace, live peace, and breathe peace, and you’ll get it as soon as you like.” [Thanks, Tattoo Blog!]
So leaving it up to sophomoric guessing is not as effective as, say, doing some real research. Hopefully, I can find more insights soon.
