Star Magazine says split; TMZ and LBN say signing papers to formalize kids’ last names. Which is it and does it matter? |
In a Star World Exclusive (April 30th issue), writers Jennifer Pearson and Roger Hitts discuss how Jolie and Pitt are “cracking under the strain of their relationship,” and are facing a separation—a trial separation.
Angie purportedly decided to be a stay-at-home mom once the couple adopted baby Pax, but within only a few weeks of the blessed event has packed to head off to Prague, where the mega-star will be filming the new action thriller, Wanted (with Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy).
Further, sources tell Pearson and Hitts, the original plan on Angie’s part was to pack up the four kids and two nannies. But Brad resisted that idea, supposedly especially attached to Shiloh (while Angie maintains “Zahara and Maddox are supreme,” says the unidentified source.
But the clear truth is that they are separating physically, geographically—not necessarily emotionally. The implications are that because Angie changes things up, switches plans, and etc., and because Brad is stressed (though “going with the flow”), the highest profile people in Hollywood to date are considered to be treating this temporary distancing as a trial separation.
Levine Breaking News, however, on April 25, reported how Jolie has filed papers to have Pitt’s name legally added to the adoption documents, giving little Pax the hyphenated surname, Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt.
Also according to TMZ on April 24, Jolie has made the decision to give mutual adoption status to Pitt for Pax—as he has for the other two adopted kids, Zahara and Maddox, and as he has taken the role of parenting Shiloh, whom Jolie gave birth to in May of 2006…so the names are the same for all four children.
So all this is sort of interesting—about as engaging, though, as how the paparazzi and press follow Angie’s allegedly dwindling weight. What is more intriguing, however, besides Jolie’s acting in blockbuster hits, is how much of a humanitarian the celebrity is—not for pictures or posturing but for personal needs to serve humankind.
2000- filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia, Jolie observes the startling conditions of the country and the people
2001- begins researching by way of such organizations as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and follows up with her first field visit to Sierra Leone and Tanzania
2001- re-visits Cambodia and then goes on to Pakistan, where she donates a million dollars for UNHCR support of Afghan refugees—named Goodwill Ambassador as a result
2001-2003- visits refugees and internationally displaced individuals in Thailand, Equadur, West Dafur (where the above photo was taken)
2002- with Colin Powell, opens for World Refugee Day, 2002
2003- takes her campaign to Kosovo and Kenya
2003 – takes the mission to Tanzania
2003- attends World Refugee Day, 2003; and then takes mission to Russia to study and learn about UNHCR operations there
2003- publishes Notes from My Travels, which chronicles her visits to refugees around the world and from which she gives 100% of the profits to UNHCR
2003- during a personal trip to Jordan, Jolie also opts to visit Ruwaished camp, where at least 800 people have taken refugee from the U.S. invasion; then proceeds to Egypt where she visits Sudanese refugees
2004- travels to Arizona to visit refugees seeking asylum with the Southwest Key Program
2004- Angie is back in Chad, in the Darfur and other regions over the next few months, ending the trip with a press conference in Khartoum, Sudan wherein she encourages more security and facilitative access to displaced persons
2004- co-hosts (with Powell again) World Refugee Day, 2004
2004- makes a trip to Thailand, then, in addition to a personal vacation in Lebanon, extends her trip to include the UNHCR regional office in Beirut and to visiting refugees and cancer patients there
2005- co-launches (with Condoleezza Rice) World Refugee Day 2005
2005- founds the National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children
Between 2005 and 2007, Angelina Jolie has continued to make her scheduled mission visits, has participated in panel discussions, and has lobbied humanitarian interests in the nation’s capitol, promoting and pushing the legislation for child protection, fiscal aid, and refugee and displaced persons protection and access.
I don’t think Brad Pitt is objecting to any of this. In fact, he has joined his girlfriend in trips to Haiti and elsewhere, and has co-founded the Jolie/Pitt Foundation –matching Jolie’s million-dollar donation to Doctors Without Borders and Global Action for Children.
It is doubtful that the children will be fought over, that the couple is all that serious about anything other than the usual separations two mega-stars in a relationship have to endure, or even that Jolie made all that firm a pact over her staying home full time.
She needs to be free to help others as much as he needs to feel he is an equal partner in the caring for and raising of their children.
