Monaco’s Prince Ties the Knot, But What about the Flowers?

One thousand Cape Proteas were ordered for the wedding of Monaco’s Prince Albert this weekend, but where were they? They certainly didn’t make to the brides bouquet, nor were they obvious in the pictured floral arrangements.

In a weekend of celebration, Prince Albert married olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock. The wedding was the second major royal wedding of the year, and given Prince Albert’s status as the ruler of tiny, but fabulously wealthy Monaco, it was expected to be far more lavish than the wedding of the politically sensitive British Prince William.

Sadly, the fairy tale wedding of the Prince’s Mother and father, film star Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier or Monaco, was not to be repeated. Amidst extraordinary rumours that the bride was not even a willing participant at the wedding, the nuptuals took on a rather unusual tone.

The guests list was, as usual, filled with the names of A list celebrities as well as many of the crowned heads of Europe and elsewhere. The UK was represented by Price Edward ans his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

The wedding flowers and bouquets were in some ways rather disappointing – the religious ceremony bouquet was a combination of conventional orchids and lily of the valley, though designed by Armani. The bouquet Princess Charlene carried to the civil ceremony was reportedly made from ‘blushing bride’ proteas, a symbol of her native country. Sadly that bouquet hasn’t made it to the official pictures, but one place you can see the unusual, but strangely beautiful South African flowers was on the couples five tear wedding cake, said to be one of the largest ever made.
