R. Kelly Verdict – “Not Guilty!”

R & B superstar and Grammy award winning music artist, R. Kelly was found not guilty for 14 charges of child pornography today June 13, 2008. The famous successful Chicago-based star had consistently denied the charges since his was arrested in 2002 after an incriminating video tape was sent to the Chicago Sun-Times. The trial officially began jury selection on May 9, 2008, and officially started on May 20 with opening statements from the prosecution and defense.

When the jury acquitted him, Mr. Robert Kelly just sit and cried. His lawyers said that their client was happy on the outcome of the trial.

“”There wasn’t enough evidence,” jubilant defense lawyer Edward Genson told a press conference saying they were “ecstatic” that Robert Kelly was cleared of all the charges against him after the jury deliberated for less than a day.

“What happened today when those verdicts started (was) you got to see the real Robert Kelly. He sat there and he was contrite. He sat there and he was crying,” said another defense lawyer Sam Adam.

“He sat there and was thanking God. All I heard the entire time those 14 verdicts were being read was thank you Jesus,” Adam said, adding: “He is a deeply religious man.”"

Even with the charges and trial R. Kelly career soared higher. He sold more than 12 million albums since 2002 and a very successful tour gaining more than $8 million.

R. Kelly is know for his top ranking songs like “Bump N’ Grind“, “I Believe I Can Fly”, “Ignition” and the urban hip-hopera “Trapped in the Closet”.
