Vampira Star Maila Nurmi Passed Away
Maila Nurmi, most popularly known as Vampira died in her sleep last January 10, 2008. They said she had a cardiac arrest and died peacefully.
She starred in Plan 9 From Outer Space which launched her as one of the most iconic personalities of sci-fi shows. She was also a model when she was 17 for Man Ray and Alberto Vargad and those modeling shows gave her foothold in the movie industry. Maila Nurmi became Vampira when she hosted the show The Vampira Show in KABC-TV station on 1954.
Due to her Vampira show, Maila Nurmi was nominated in the Emmy’s as “Most Outstanding Female Personality”. She was also inducted into the Monster Kid Hall of Fame at the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards. She was seen with famous celebrities such as James Dean, Orson Welles, Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. Vampira married actor Fabrizio Mioni in 1961.
She managed and owned the antique shop called Vampira’s Attic and lived with her pets until the day she died.
